The Congressionally Awarded Retina Group of New York has provided advanced personalized ophthalmic eye care specialized in retina to patients in Nassau and Suffolk Counties since 1986 at its offices in Hicksville and Islandia. Both locations are fully equipped with in-office laser capabilities, cutting edge diagnostic equipment, and integrated electronic records. As dedicated Board Certified Ophthalmologists with subspecialty fellowship training in medical and surgical retina and uveitis, we recognize the trust our patients and the medical community place in us, and it is our mission to meet and exceed those expectations. Our practice specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of retinal diseases and conditions related to the retina. We focus on medically and surgically treating patients with all types of retinal diseases. We complement our clinical care with advanced surgical treatments for our patients. The practice is limited to medical and surgical retinal problems and second opinions. These include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, retinal detachments, macular pucker and macular holes, surgical complications, uveitis and low vision. National Society to Prevent Blindness Representative for the ANSI Z-80 committee Former President Nassau County Ophthalmological Society Co-Chair World Diabetic Congress Dr. Maisel, founder of the Retina Group of New York, is a Board Certified ophthalmologist who completed his Dyson fellowship in vitreous and retinal surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He served as a Corporate Advisory Board member for the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Medical Advisory Board. He was also a member of the AAO Instrument and Device and Low Vision Committees and has received research grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the National Institute of Health. Dr. Maisel represented the National Society to Prevent Blindness at the ANSI Z-80 committee where he helped establish many ophthalmic industry standards. He served as an editor of EyeCare Technology Magazine, authored numerous professional journal articles, and lectures nationally on retina, medical informatics and practice management topics. Dr. Maisel is also the chairman of ZyDoc Medical Transcription, a medical informatics company. In addition, he has been a clinical investigator, consultant, educator, and advisory board member for Pfizer, Novartis, EyeTech, TopCon, Genentech, Alimera, Regeneron and Allergan, educating retinal specialists across the US.     Uveitis and Vitreoretinal Surgery

    Dr. Shah specializes in uveitis and vitreoretinal surgery. She has published numerous papers on anti-VEGF medications including Avastin, Lucentis and Eylea, and procedures that are currently used by retina specialists such as retinal detachment repair and macular pucker surgery. She has participated in ongoing clinical trials for macular degeneration and uveitis. Dr. Shah has presented her research, received research scholarships and awards, and has given lectures at the national level to hundreds of physicians across the country. She was also awarded the Resident Teaching Award for her excellence in instructing surgical and medical techniques to ophthalmology residents.     Iuri Golubev, MD, FAAO Diplomate, American Board of Ophthalmology Fellow, American Society of Retina Specialists Iuri Golubev, M.D. joins the Retina Group of New York after six years as a top-rated retinal specialist in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Golubev, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists, brings tremendous retinal expertise to Long Island. His training included a two year Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious LSU, New Orleans, Louisiana program and a three year ophthalmology residency at Indiana University, Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition, his Surgical Internship was at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida. Dr. Golubev also completed a two year Research Fellowship in electrophysiology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida, the number one ophthalmology program in the U.S. In addition to his comprehensive experience treating vitreous, retina and macula diseases, he has expertise in uveitis and unusual ocular problems. He has a special interest in the evolving field of hereditary and genetic retinal diseases and has presented his work to the American Society of Retinal Surgeons. He is an avid marathon runner and fisherman and is fluent in English, Spanish, Russian and Romanian languages.
